Announces Partnership With Baptist South Miami Home Care
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (February 15, 2002) —American
TeleCare, Inc. (ATI) announced today that Baptist South Miami Home
Care (BSMHC), the home health affiliate of Baptist Health System
of South Florida, has started a telehomecare program with ATI’s
AVIVA system.
Telehomecare, technology-enabled home health
care delivery, allows for the remote provision of care, monitoring,
and education to patients in their homes. BSMHC selected a system
which combines live audio/video with medical peripherals including
a telephonic stethoscope, blood pressure meter, scale, and glucose
meter.
BSMHC, the leader in home health delivery
services in south Florida, has initially decided to focus on its
heart failure population, given that group’s risk and cost
to home health and the hospital system.
“Telehomecare makes sense when you
consider the cost of chronic illness, the nursing shortage and patient
need. We know home care is going in this direction and we want to
embrace this change and be successful with it now,” says Jean
Arias, RN, administrator to BSMHC. Of her decision to work with
American TeleCare, Jean adds, “The telecare units are state-of-the-art
and able to capture video and audio of the patient, which is needed
to enhance quality home care.”
American TeleCare, Inc. pioneered the concept
of Telehomecare, in 1993. The company markets the AVIVA System,
an FDA cleared telemedicine monitoring system that incorporates
live audio/video with integrated, electronic medical peripherals
to allow a doctor or nurse to conduct remote examinations of patients
in their homes. American TeleCare has installed the majority of
Telehomecare programs throughout the world, and is the recognized
industry leader. American TeleCare is headquartered in Eden Prairie,
Minn.
