American TeleCare®, Inc. Announces Customer Partnership With Beverly Hospital and North Shore Elder Services

EDEN PRAIRIE, MN, August 18, 2003 — American TeleCare, Inc. today announced a customer partnership to build a new telemedicine program with Beverly Hospital and North Shore Elder Services, located in Beverly, Mass.

The program, developed by American TeleCare, Inc., will allow clinicians to assess and treat elderly patients who suffer from chronic illness and heart disease right in their homes. This initiative is the first telemedicine program in the nation that includes a hospital-based disease management service in collaboration with a community social service agency.

The telemedicine home health system connects directly to a patient’s telephone and features live audio/video components combined with a telephonic stethoscope and other medical “peripherals” (blood pressure meter, scale, glucose meter, pulse oximeter and digital image capture) – allowing the health and disease management specialist to conduct a complete “virtual visit” to patients at home.

“ A $225,000 state grant provided the funding needed for telehealth”, according to Judith Thomson, Director of Family Caregiver Services at North Shore Elder Services. “Thanks to this system, not only can we conduct a complete assessment of our patients while they are at home, but we also have ample opportunity to reinforce education and gauge compliance,” says Patricia Grady, RN, director of health and disease management services at Beverly Hospital. “Many of the patients have mobility issues and difficulty getting to their doctor’s office or hospital. This technology allows us to provide our patients with improved access to care by breaking down traditional barriers to patient care.”

“American TeleCare is pleased to add Beverly Hospital and North Shore Elder Services to our list of partners,” said Randy Moore, CEO of American TeleCare.” This technology will support their ability to intervene in a more timely manner and reduce health care costs through a reduction in emergency room visits and costly re-admissions.” he said.

American TeleCare pioneered the concept of home telehealth in 1993. The company markets FDA approved telehealth monitoring systems that incorporate live audio/video with integrated electronic medical peripherals. Clinicians use American TeleCare systems to conduct remote clinical examinations of patients. American TeleCare has installed the majority of home telehealth programs throughout the world and is the recognized industry leader. For more information, visit www.americantelecare.com.
