American TeleCare, Inc. Demonstrates Products to Congress Telehealth Technology Beneficial for Aging Adults

March 29, 2004 – American TeleCare, Inc. (ATI) was invited by the Center for Aging Services Technologies (CAST), Sears Methodist Retirement System and the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA) to demonstrate the company's telehealth products & programs, which reduce costs and improve quality of life for aging adults. The demonstration of the ATI family of Video Patient Stations and Monitoring Stations, took place in front of members of Congress March 16 on Capitol Hill.

Home care and hospice providers continue to face serious healthcare issues such as rising costs, lowered reimbursement rates and an aging population. ATI's telemedicine technology addresses these issues while increasing the quality of care to patients and supporting the elderly population's preference to live independently with healthcare provided in the comfort of their own home.

Now, patients using ATI's Telehealthcare systems get the benefit of face-to-face voice and picture links so they can talk to and hear their healthcare provider over standard telephone lines. The equipment easily measures, stores, and transmits patient blood pressure, Protime® (blood clotting time), pulse oximetry, pulse rate, blood glucose, weight, and stethoscope readings. The ATI's telehealth technology is easy-to-use and transmits over a standard telephone line.

As an example: In one year's time, Bob Erickson, 75, had been taken to the hospital 11 times for severe stomach pain or congestive heart failure. During the six months that followed, he was brought into the hospital just once. That's because Erickson now has a Video- based telehealth connection in his home and visits with a home-health nurse 60 miles away. Telehealth technology is most often being used with patients who have chronic diseases that need careful monitoring, and the technology is changing how patients are treated. With the average hospital admission costing $6,000-$7,000, ATI's telemonitoring systems create substantial savings in health care expenditures.

American TeleCare is dedicated to improving outcomes while lowering health care costs and has been since its formation in 1993. ATI provides technology-enabled patient care management solutions, featuring live audio/video/data communication and integrated medical peripherals.  ATI's telehealth solutions enable remote, real-time clinical interactions-resulting in increased efficiency in patient care delivery, improved outcomes and increased patient and clinician satisfaction while lowering costs.
